Many thanks to all of you who have sent birthday messages to me for Phil yesterday! Phil says he was very touched by the many birthday messages - they really have made his day!
And, as usual...
It's 5 years ago that SAILOR - then in the line-up with Peter, Phil, Rob and Grant - started their Holland tour in Egmond aan Zee today.
This concert was the first show of the two weeks Holland tour of SAILOR together with The Rubettes (featuring Alan Williams).
We had lots of fun travelling to the concert with Christel, Andreas and Linda. (5 people in my poor old car? Oh my god...!) Our friend Andreas even brought Georg Kajanus' original Charango that he had won by an auction that year to the concert and got it out during "Vera From Veracruz", causing some confusion...
If you'd like to have a look at the photos fand a video rom this day again, go to the "Concert Photos" section or just click here: Egmond aan Zee, Holland - 20 November 2004

If you want to leave him a birthday greeting, please e-mail to info@sailor-music.com and the messages will be forwarded to him!
And...
It's 15 years ago that SAILOR played in our hometown Kassel (Germany) today. Yes, further below you read the same already, but they really played here twice in one week in November 1994... and then never again.
This concert was very special because it was Phil's 48th birthday. Many many fans had come from all over Germany to see SAILOR at the annual Oldie Night. Afterwards many fans also came to the hotel to meet the band and celebrate Phil's birthday.

Some people might have wondered about Phil's recent blog-entry via Twitter on his homepage. He had a strange gardening accident some days ago while gardening, when tree branch jumped back and went straight inside his ear. Apparently this was rather painfult, but don't worry, he says he will be ok again soon!
All the best for a speedy recovery in stereo...!!!
And because I've been very lazy (website and blog etc.) in the last few weeks, here we go again... Today in the SAILOR history is back:
It's 15 years ago that SAILOR - then in the original line-up with Georg, Henry, Phil and Grant - played in our hometown Kassel (Germany) today.
Wow that was an exciting day... I was only 14 then and I was quite convinced I was going to die of panickiness at any minute. I met Karsten right after school and we waited for the boys in the cold for several hours - eventually realising that they had walked to the hall from their nearby hotel and into the venue through the main entrance, while we'd been freezing at the backstage door.
But things got a lot better afterwards. They gave us backstage passes for this even which was the 5th birthday party of radio FFH (and only for invited guests), we walked through our hometown with all of them, went shopping (to find a SAILOR CD!), got invited for dinner etc. etc. The list goes on.
All SAILOR concert experiences are quite unique and special, of course. But this was one of them which is still very clear and near in my memory. It's strange how some gigs seem near and some seem further away even though they weren't as long ago sometimes (in the sense of how many details I remember).
The first of these two Kassel concerts in one week (they had another one an the annual Oldie Night 4 days later!) was a VERY special one indeed!

I've had a whole bunch of requests recently via e-mail and via mobile phone and even via phone at home... from people wanting information about various things. This is no problem, in general, and I try to help where I can and am always there for requests via e-mail etc.
Yes, I did confirm that the concert in Rheine last Saturday was cancelled and it could be seen on the website for quite a while. But I don't want to answer phonecalls about why and how a ticket refund could be achived etc. etc. For the one simple reason: I have no idea. I only host this website with the information I get. I am not the concert promoter and I usually have no idea why I show gets cancelled when this happens.
I'm also always happy to try and help with any kind of pre-concert information. And if I can't tell people in which hotel the band will stay next time it's not because I don't want to but, again, simply because I don't know and we usually only find out where to meet them about 1-2 days in advance of the shows (with a lot of luck); sometimes even later.
So... I don't act in bad faith if information are not available. I simply don't have them.
(The same with concert dates here on my website, by the way. The page says "We post everything we know about future concerts and TV shows here. So, if you can't find details below, we don't have them yet!" So everybody can be sure that I only have the details that are posted there. There is no use in e-mailing me to ask why there are no further details... I'm not keeping things from anybody.)
Anyway, it's nice to be able to help and people can e-mail me (plus SAILOR friends can call me, too). But I feel like the inofficial SAILOR travel agency for people. But I'm not abailable 24/7...
Anyway, enough about me being annoyed and on to nicer subjects... Here are some impressions from last weekend - Sweet Pete in Alsfeld (Germany) at the Classic Rock Night:

I've missed out on several "Today in the SAILOR history" bits recently. Not because I forgot about them but mainly because I thought those might be rather boring for all the readers out there.
Today is one, as well. One year ago we went to the concert in Essen (Germany). But I don't want to go on about that now.
Last night SAILOR played at an Oldie Night in Erlangen (Germany) and I hope that somebody out there saw the concert and can give us some impressiones?! That would be great.
In the meantime, I have received some great new photos of the recent concert in Regensburg - with special thanks to SAILOR fans Werner and Renate! You can see them at the page about the concert: Regensburg, Germany - 02 October 2009
And... Here's a little photo that Phil sent me this weekend. It shows SAILOR on one of their recent journeys to a concert... by train:

If anybody is interested, Radio Arabella has a little "best of" video of last Saturday's Oldie Night with SAILOR in Munich on their homepage:
www.radioarabella.de/default.aspx?ID=7207&showNews=580331
Plus... A lovely report and some photos from Susi Akinci (many thanks!) right here: Munich, Germany - 17 Ocober 2009
And again I had to spend most of the day recovering lost data from a bloody old computer and a halfway broken-down Outlook instead of working on the page about the recent Regensburg concert, adding a 'best of' video etc.
But in the meantime...
Here's a special greeting from - Grant, Nick, Phil and Henry - for the fans and visitors of this homepage:

Back online...
And just found this one:

We got back home from the SAILOR concert journey last night at 4.15 am, but I have no idea how I got here (at least some parts of the drive are missing), in spite of having done all the driving myself (more than 800 km). And after some sleep I woke up with a heavy cold and sore throat...
The concert was great, and so was the audience. That means if we don't count the small bitchy man next to us who wouldn't let us film or take photos or even simply just be there in piece. (Greetings!)
We even managed to capture most of the concert plus a little "extra" surprise on Karsten's video camera. Now all that needs to happen is that the first of the two camera video-tapes needs to reappear. Apparently I hear it's lost at the moment...
But the second one still exists for the moment, so here's "Girls Girls Girls"...
In about two hours (hopefully!) Karsten and I will be on our way to Regensburg in the South of Germany, where SAILOR will play at an Oldie Night tonight, together with some other bands - The Rubettes featuring Alan Williams, Matchbox, Midlife Crisis and Duty Free - at a big shopping centre called "Regensburg-Arcaden".
We were at the same venue for a SAILOR concert in October 2005, so at least we know where we will be going...
Let's see what happens this time...

It's 14 years ago that SAILOR - then in the original line-up with Georg, Henry, Phil and Grant - played in Gehrden, Germany, today.
I have now permanently added the very special concert/journey report video from Grant Serpell - with special thanks to Grant & Michelle Serpell for filming and providing this material - which includes the soundcheck/preparations plus some more funny "behind the scenes" material, a lot of very enthusiastic fans and some extracts of the concert...

And...
It's 9 years ago that SAILOR - then in the line-up with Peter, Anthony, Phil and Grant - played in Bremerhaven, Germany, today.
This concert was the last concert with Anthony for us. He played some more shows with SAILOR in 2000 and early 2001, but we didn't see him after Bremerhaven.
The journey to this concert was a rather spontanious thing for me, as I only decided to join our SAILOR-friend Christel on the morning of the concert and quickly got onto a train.

I'd decided to not send out a new newsletter on the 1st of every month to announce the new SAILOR Video Of The Month here on this website, as it was quite obvious that a new one would be added on every 1st. But recently the videos hardly got watched any more. I hoped the section would be fun, but now I wonder whether it's too much work to dig out an old rare SAILOR video every ~4 weeks. Or maybe I should just put in more work again and send out a newsletter to all fans to remind them of it? But then... The name of the section should make it clear.
Anyway, while the original red light-chain of the old black Nickelodeon that we now own could still not be repaired, Karsten has decided to do some own temporary rennovation work in his garage:

It's 3 years ago that SAILOR - then in the line-up with Peter, Henry, Phil and Grant - played in Parchim, Germany, today.
This show was the last SAILOR concert with Captain Peter Lincoln before he left the ship to go on a new sweet journey. It wasn't an easy day. What more can I say...
If you'd like to have a look at the photos and videos from this day again, go to the "Concert Photos" section or just click here: Parchim, Germany - 09 September 2006

It's 2 years ago that SAILOR - then in the band line-up with Oliver, Phil, Henry and Grant - played in Luckenwalde, Germany, today.
The concert was the only SAILOR headline concert in Germany since the 70s, and it was attended by 46 people. Most of these had travelled 400 km or more to see the band, and (possible due to a lack of promotion?! until today we haven't quite found out...) there were hardly any local people there. Even fans from England and France were there. So it became a funny and special private concert for us SAILOR fans which we all enjoyed very much, as well as the band.
If you'd like to have a look at the photos and videos from this day again - including an exclusive statement from Grant about the day - go to the "Concert Photos" section or just click here: Luckenwalde, Germany - 01 September 2007

The new Video Of The Month for September will be online soon. Watch out for it.
Shame, apparently nobody really cares too much about the previous video for August or any things that do not feature the original line-up. Which is a shame because there are reasons the band has been going on successfully for so many years now. I thought these two songs I had chosen were two brillant live songs - and also I had chosen two songs because "Karma Chameleon" is great but still a cover-version, so I'd added "Give Me Shakespeare" too.
Hope somebody out there watched and enjoyed them, anyway...
